Dylan Thomas Walter's original score*** for "Curly," a documentary film directed by Gianina Ferreyra and executive produced by the Chouinard Foundation. The soundtrack was composed between 2010 and 2011, with the film being released in 2013.
Summary of the film, from IMDB: "'CURLY' follows Gustavo 'CURLY' Fernandez as he flourishes within this free art program and delves into the roots of the Chouinard Foundation, their inspiration and history. This multi-layered work produced and directed by Gianina Ferreyra and edited and co-written by William Devin Walsh illuminates the rich legacy of Nelbert Chouinard and her school - the Chouinard School of Art, which is survived through rare, in-studio interviews with artists Larry Bell, Bob Irwin, Chaz Bojorquez, Sam Clayberger, Guy Dill, Laddie John Dill, Llyn Foulkes, Joe Goode, Lou Paleno, Ed Ruscha, Peter Shire, Chuck Swenson, John Van Hamersveld, Theodora Van Runkle, Norton Wisdom and Gary Wong, who share their insight into what made their school LA's cradle of creation."
***A note regarding the track order: the first half of the album is comprised of thematic, "composed" material, and the second half consists of ambient-style, non-rhythmic "soundscape" pieces. This is not the order in which they appear in the film.
Furthermore, it should be noted that the final cut of the film clocks in at 49 minutes, whereas the total length of the music here is just shy of an hour and a half. This is because many parts of the film underwent transitions after music had already been set, and entirely new pieces needed to be composed to replace the previous ones. So about half of the material here was not included in the final cut of the film, despite having been included in one of it's earlier forms.
